Yesterday’s marathon showing of Serial Experiments Lain marked the end of the 2016-2017 club year. After the marathon we had time to fit in one movie,

Air: The Motion Picture / Gekijouban Air

The 2017-2018 club year will be starting up with the showing on this Saturday, September 9th in TBD. The opening post of the club year will be made later today or Monday, along with a surprise.

Sean who has been handling the equipment and running the showings, has concluded his duties. Kerry will be taking over his duties. Sean plans to be in Ottawa until his departure later this fall or early winter and will likely still attend the showings.

Expo Carleton 2017
The club will be at Expo Carleton. If you are a new or returning student and are going to Expo, come by our table and say konnichiwa.

The end of the 2016-2017 club year is fast approaching. The club year will wrap up in early September and then the 2017-2018 club year kicks off. More details about how we’ll wrap up the current year will be posted within the next week or so.

Anime Film Week at the Embassy of Japan
Starting Monday, August 21st through Friday, August 25th the Embassy of Japan (255 Sussex Drive, Ottawa) will be hosting Anime Film Week. Each night at 6:30pm the embassy will be playing a different anime film. More information in the post from August 17th.

Anime Film Week at the Embassy of Japan
Starting Monday, August 21st through Friday, August 25th the Embassy of Japan (255 Sussex Drive, Ottawa) will be hosting Anime Film Week. Each night at 6:30pm the embassy will be playing a different anime film.

The Information
- All films will be screened at the Embassy of Japan's Auditorium, 255 Sussex Drive, Ottawa.
- No reservations required. Free seats will be available on a first come first served basis.
- For security reasons, we kindly ask that you do not arrive at the Embassy until the gates open at 6 pm.

July Reunion Club Dinner: The Return of Dr. C Mango
The Club Dinner: July Edition returns this month. On this month’s Club Dinner: After spending almost a year in his secret lab in Europe, Dr. C Mango has finally undone his mangoification. With a year to contemplate new plans for humankind mangoification, Dr. C Mango returns with a new dastardly plan to test on unknowing club members. To aid him in his dastardly plan, he has recruited, unknowingly, the assistance of Dr. A Saber von Camelot. Meanwhile, Colin is putting Sean-chan through a rigorous training regimen to master the mahou powers. Dave is still missing, he is believed to have been beliebernapped. Will the return of Dr. C Mango signal the end of humankind? Will Sean-chan gain his full mahou shoujo powers? What will happen to Dave's musical religion now that he is missing? Stay tuned to find out!

The July Club Dinner will be taking place later this month with two special members, André and Carsten, both in town for a conference. If you'd like to attend, please send me a message with confirmation no later then 3:00pm on Wednesday, July 26th. An email has already been sent to those on the email list.

As mentioned, André and Carsten will be at the dinner. André will be attending the club showing on July 22nd. Carsten has to go to another conference in St. John's but will be returning to Ottawa and likely be attending the club showings on August 5th and 12th. There will likely be other activities planned with Carsten when he is in town in August.

Natsu Matsuri

JETAA's Natsu Matsuri is taking place this Sunday, July 23rd in Mooney's Bay Park from 11am to 4pm. Natsu Matsuri is JETAA's summer festival to promote all things Japan. This year they invited the club to promote anime, manga and Japanese pop culture. So if you decide to attend, look for us at one of the tables there. There will be number of cultural performances and exhibits there. Some Japanese traditional and inspired foods will also be served at the festival.

Jasper having realized he likes to reviews things, starts to review the following series episode by episode, Candy Candy, Perrine Monogatari and Nobody’s Boy Remi / Ie Naki Ko. While trying to get his music religion off the ground, Dave encounters a rival music religion, the beliebers. Will Sean1 become Mahou Shoujo Sean-chan with Colin’s help? Will Jasper review all anime in existence? What will happen to Dave and his music religion rivals?

Ghost in the Shell

On Friday, March 31st the live action Ghost in the Shell film will be released in theatres. To promote the film, Paramount Pictures approached the club to offer passes to the advance screening on Wednesday, March 29th and some branded merchandise. February Club Dinner: Naga Eating Challenge Nirvana
The Club Dinner: February Edition returns next month. On this month’s Club Dinner: Sean1 decides that it is finally time to cosplay, as Naga the Serpent. Sean2 comes up with the Tempura Challenge, where he will attempt to set a world record for amount of tempura consumed. Dave finally finds the music nirvana he’s been searching for, an overlay of every song from the Spice Girls, Destiny's Child, Backstreet Boys and two-thirds of the songs from NSYNC. Will Sean1 become a worldwide cosplay sensation and become an idol? Will Sean2 have to be rolled out of the restaurant in a wheelbarrow and be unable to move for most of a week? Will Dave start preaching about how to get to music nirvana and create his own music religion?

November Club Dinner: Mangosten
The Club Dinner: November Edition returns early next month. On this month’s Club Dinner: Carsten’s last attempt at WORLD DOMINATION through mangoifying humankind has ended. After bioengineering a human to mango formula that was supposed to be tested on fellow club members, the scent of mango the formula gave off was too much for the Carsten’s mango addiction to handle. In his addiction crazed state Carsten drank the entire batch of formula and started to experience mangoification. In order to not clue customs officials off, he flew back to Germany before the effects could take hold where he hopes to develop a formula to reverse the effects. Until he does he is a risk to himself day after day due to the temptation to eat his new mango body. Will Carsten find a way to reverse his formula? Will he end up tempted and start eating himself? Only time will tell!
The November Club Dinner will be taking place this coming Wednesday (Nov. 2nd). If you’d like to attend and have not received an email with details, send me a message ASAP. All those on the email list should have already received notification for the dinner’s details.

Likewise, if you need to reach us for any reason please send an email. If you’d like to reach one of the executives directly via email, executive emails can be found on the Contact Us or the Executive pages.

Expo Carleton
The club will be attending Expo Carleton this year. Expo Carleton is taking place on Tuesday, September 6th in the University Fieldhouse from 12:00pm to 4:00pm. If you’re going to be going through there as part of your orientation activities, stop by our table and say hi. The executive who will attend Expo is Kerry (President), we also have a member volunteer and you may see Craig (Kaicho) there briefly.

Club Membership
Membership with the club is free. In order to be considered an official member you do need to sign the membership list, which will be available at the showings throughout the club year. You are welcome to attend a few showings without signing up to see if the club is for you.

CUSA Hub
In addition to the above club membership, the Carleton University Students’ Association (CUSA) has decided that for the 2016-2017 school year to implement a new club management system, CUSA Hub. CUSA Hub is supposed to be designed to allow club registration and club management to be handled all digitally. If you have Carleton ID, alumni included, please go through the process and register with the club via CUSA Hub.
Step 1: Visit CUSA Hub to begin the process.
Step 2: Once your through the quick Hub registration and on the Hub’s homepage, click on Groups in the red bar at the top.
Step 3: Search for Anime@Carleton in the Groups search box, upper left under the CUSA Hub logo.
Step 4: Once you’ve found the club and clicked on it, hit the Join button on the club’s group page.

If you would like to follow the other outlets of news from the club there is a Google+ Page, Facebook Page, Twitter Feed, and a Steam Group.

Future Executives
For the 2017-2018 club year, the club will be needing a few new executives. If you would like to be a club executive for next club year, you don’t have to do anything right now except be a regularly attending member at our events throughout the 2016-2017 club year.
