August 30th, 2008: The Final Post of 2007-2008
Well the 2007-2008 Club Year saw club activities increasing with a Christmas Showing (the first in club history) and Summer Showings (the first time in club history). The website got a complete revamp and expanded.
Announced over the summer, the club became a member of Right Stuf’s Stuf for Clubs Anime Club Support Program. This means the club now has access to exclusive discount codes at the Right Stuf Store, promotional items from time to time, screener discs from Nozomi Entertainment, and a streamlined screening permission process for Nozomi Entertainment titles.
With the conclusion of the 2007-2008 Club Year the club has increased its activity and will continue to do so in the coming year with a number of special events. Nick the original founder of A@C has finished at Carleton and may no longer be haunting the showings. Nick leaves as D’Arcy takes over supplying the break time entertainment. As a final touch to the 07-08 year the lineup and timetable for 08-09 has been announced and two new pages have been added to the website, ‘Statistics’ and ‘Policies’ both located under the ‘Executive’ section.
Hopefully everyone who attended our events over the course of 07-08 enjoyed the showings and the company of fellow Anime fans.
I hereby pronounce the 2007-2008 Club Year over. See you in September for the 2008-2009 Club Year.
Enjoy the few remaining days before the fall-term starts, for those of us who are students, and check back early next week for an announcement about Prelude 2008.

Yesterday was the Last Showing of Summer, the title that was shown was I, My, Me! Strawberry Eggs, as it turns out this was shown in some format during the founding year of A@C. During the break period we held a raffle for various rare Geneon items.
Well this concludes our 2007-2008 showing year. The next A@C showing will be taking place sometime in September, keep checking back for updates. Over the course of the next few weeks the website will have various additions (new sections and various updates). So even though the showing year has finished there will still be updates done that will fall within the 07-08 club year. When the time comes I’ll make the official last post of 07-08 and close the current club year.
Enjoy the rest of the summer and we’ll be seeing you in September.

The raffle is going ahead. I just received the package from Right-Stuf today, UPS did not let us down.
So without further ado the details about this Saturday, August 16th Showing and Raffle.
The showing will be taking place in Mackenzie Building (ME) 3275 from 4:00pm to roughly 11:15pm. For a detailed layout see the ‘Events’ section. This showing will be in honour of Geneon, this is also our Last Showing of Summer. There will be six titles to choose from at the showing, they are:

Hanaukyo Maid Team: La Verite, rated 16+
Hand Maid May, rated 13+
I, My, Me! Strawberry Eggs, rated 13+
Someday’s Dreamers, rated 13+
*The ratings are based on the US rating system. Whichever title is shown will be shown in dub format.
The Raffle
The raffle will be held during the break period and there will be two separate raffles, first the Main Raffle with the Choice Pot at the end, then the 18+ Raffle. All proceeds from the raffle will go to support the club in the coming year. Important Notice: Because the proceeds go into the club’s cash, please only bring small change for the raffle (stuff like loonies, toonies, and small bills). The club will not have change on hand, so if you brought only large bills there will be time to go the convince store is the Res Commons to break it down or hope what other people brought can break it down.
The details of the raffle are:
You will choose numbers from 1 to 99 (if more people are at the showing, then normal, the range will be increased) each number costs $2 or you can purchase three numbers for $5. The numbers do not have to be back to back, but you can not choose a number that someone else already has chosen. The choices of numbers will be first come first pick once the raffle is announced shortly after the start of the break period.
You will write your name and numbers on a sheet of paper and the raffle will be run by a random number generator. The person who has the number that is generated wins and comes up to claim their various prize, this will continue until the seven main numbers have been generated. If a number is generated that no ones has chosen another number will be generated until it lands on a chosen number.
After the six main numbers have been generated the raffle will continue for 5 numbers to raffle off the remaining contents of the Choice Pot (see below). This will be first come first pick and so on, each number generated allows for one item.

Update on the Raffle:
Currently I’m waiting on the majority of the raffle items to arrive. They are scheduled to arrive this Friday according to the UPS tracking system. If by chance they do not make it, the raffle will be postponed until the first showing of the fall-term. I can’t say what all the raffle prizes are until I receive the package, so check back Friday evening and Saturday early afternoon, at the latest, for an update. If they don’t arrive on Friday I’ll post that they didn’t and unfortunately you’ll just have to wait until the start of our fall-term showings.
The majority of the raffle prizes are generously provided by Right-Stuf, and hence the possible delay due to shipping times. I have seen the teaser list of what was going to be going into the package and I can say you won’t be disappointed when the raffle is held.
Last weekend was the SOAP Party, August 9th, 2008 Edition at Carleton. The number of attendees exceeded 100 people and there was 19+ pizzas ordered. Everyone who attended seemed to have enjoyed their time. The dealer/artist room was moved to TB 206 to accommodate for an increase in the number of dealers, The Comic Book Shoppe from the Bank Street location attended as always and this time saw the introduction of Toys on Fire. Besides the two retail dealers there was an increase in the number of private things for sale and the number of artist tables. The gaming room was separated from the contest gaming room which provided a much better environment for both rooms. Chibi-Cubed tickets were on sale for $8 at the party and are now $10 and can be picked up from various places in Ottawa, check the SOAP’s Forums for locations and the Chibi-Cubed forums, which will be a sub section of the main SOAP Forums once they are up and running.

The new start time is to allow for a more relaxed showing and to allow those who use public transit to not have to rush at the end of the showing.

This Saturday is the Marathon Showing of Those Who Hunt Elves. The showing will start at 12:00pm (noon) and go until 11:30pm in Minto Centre (MC) 2000 (Bell Theater). The layout of the showing will be:
12:00pm to 2:30pm – Episodes 1 to 6
2:30pm to 3:00pm – Break 1
3:00pm to 5:30pm – Episodes 7 to 12
5:30pm to 6:00pm – Break 2
6:00pm to 8:30pm – Episodes 13 to 18
8:30pm to 9:00pm – Break 3
9:00pm to 11:30pm – Episodes 19 to 24
*All times are approximate.
Before we start a vote will be taken to determine if the dub version is shown instead of the sub. I’m giving you this option because the series is 10 hours in length and that is a long time to be reading subtitles for those of you haven’t watched a series in sub in marathon format before. Also, this is not yet official, but during one of the breaks there may be a short film screened, the film has no relation to Anime.
At the showing this Saturday there will be more Anime goodies given away. Here are some of the goodies that will be up for grabs:
Strawberry Marshmallow pencil boards
Texhnolyze pencil boards
BALDR FORCE EXE Resolution stickers
FUNimation Promo Disc with 2 episodes of Samurai 7, 1 episode of Burst Angel, and 1 episode of Kitty Grade
Some Viz Comics of Dragon Ball and a Sonic X comic from Archie
Plus if that isn’t enough there will be some Anime DVDs as well
On a side note, at the showing I’ll have a few Anime DVDs for sale. They are:
Madlax Complete Collection for $45
Sorcerer Hunters Complete Collection $25
Slayers: The Book of Spells and Slayers Excellent for $20 each or $30 for both
I’m offering attendees of A@C showings the first shot at getting these from me, if no one is interested the next time you’ll be able to get them is at the SOAP Party on August 9th. If you have any questions fire me off an email (email can be found in the ‘Contact’ or ‘Executives’ section).

June 12th, 2008: Important Update on Canada’s Proposed New Copyright

Here is an email from Industry Canada I received shortly after 1:00pm today.
The Government of Canada has introduced Bill C-61, An Act to Amend the Copyright Act. The proposed legislation is a made-in-Canada approach that balances the needs of Canadian consumers and copyright owners, promoting culture, innovation and competition in the digital age.
What does Bill C-61 mean to Canadians? Specifically, it includes measures that would:
-expressly allow you to record TV shows for later viewing; copy legally purchased music onto other devices, such as MP3 players or cell phones; make back-up copies of legally purchased books, newspapers, videocassettes and photographs onto devices you own; and limit the "statutory damages" a court could award for all private use copyright infringements;
-implement new rights and protections for copyright holders, tailored to the Internet, to encourage participation in the online economy, as well as stronger legal remedies to address Internet piracy;
-clarify the roles and responsibilities of Internet Service Providers related to the copyright content flowing over their network facilities; and
-provide photographers with the same rights as other creators.
What Bill C-61 does not do:
-it would not empower border agents to seize your iPod or laptop at border crossings, contrary to recent public speculation
What this Bill is not:
-it is not a mirror image of U.S. copyright laws. Our Bill is made-in-Canada with different exceptions for educators, consumers and others and brings us into line with more than 60 countries including Japan, France, Germany and Australia
Bill C-61 was introduced in the Commons on June 12, 2008 by Industry Minister Jim Prentice and Heritage Minister Josée Verner.

As a reminder A@C will be taking a few weeks off, mostly so I can have a rest from all the Anime events, besides I’m the only Executive in Ottawa so planning/execution does get tiresome.
The next A@C showing date will be announced in a few weeks, so keep checking back, it will be announced at least one week in advance. As a reminder the rest of the Summer Showings will be taking place on Saturdays. The next showing will be another Mini-Marathon of a series that has 11-13 episodes, the series will be announced along side the showing date.
On the horizon is a large Marathon Showing of Those Who Hunt Elves. So people can plan for it, it will be announced well in advance and be from 1:00pm to ~11:00pm.
Also, there will be special surprise(s) to attendees of the upcoming A@C Summer Showings. If you want to find out what the surprise(s) is you’ll have to come out to the showings.
Unless any important news surfaces within the next few weeks, I’m signing off.

Tomorrow is A@C’s Mini-Marathon of Ginban Kaleidoscope. As a reminder the room that we’re in is Tory Building (TB) 360, the same theater where SOAP holds their showings.
Because the series is close to five hours in length the time table of the showing will be altered so we don’t run too late. The showing starts at 5:30pm, we will then run until the first six episodes of the series are shown. At which point a short break period will be granted, then the last six episodes will be shown.
On Saturday is the SOAP Party starting at 3:00pm and going until around 10:00pm. For more information see the event listing in the ‘Events’ section.

Welcome to the new Anime @ Carleton website!
The site was designed and created by our new Webmaster, Jessica, who will be more active with the club come the fall. There will be more features added within the coming year, like a completely new forum.
Have a look around and hope you all enjoy the new look.
A@C Summer Showings
This summer A@C will be hosting a number of summer showings. Starting sometime in May (there will be at least one week’s notice) and running until August. The showings will not have continuing series throughout the summer, but will instead be individual showings, that way you can come and go as you please. There will be no membership required for the showings over the summer. They will consist of small series, Anime movies, and possibly a marathon or two (that may mean an all night Anime showing). Another idea that is a concept at the moment is a showing devoted to classic/art-house/overlooked Anime. Keep checking back for updates.
SOAP Socials
Due to AC-Cubed taking a year off until 2009, SOAP will be hosting a number of showings/socials over the summer to keep the Ottawa Anime fans happy. Besides checking their website we will also be posting their events in the ‘Events’ section.
Hopefully the exam period has gone well for everyone. We at A@C wish everyone a safe and relaxing summer.

The dates of these showings will be announced at least one week in advance and will be free admission. We still have a bunch of Anime movies to show and a pile of small series. Besides our standard showing timetable which will apply to most of the summer showings, there may be a few all night Anime showings of series that have 24-26 episodes.
Besides A@C showings SOAP will be holding a number of events over the summer. Any Anime related event we are informed of will be posted here on the A@C homepage and in the ‘Events’ section.
To all Carleton University and University of Ottawa students, good luck in your exams.

Notice of Elections:
This will be announced at the showing tomorrow. Club elections will be held during the break period of the April 4th showing. The position that is up for election is:
Treasurer
The treasurer duties include but not limit to; guarding the cashbox, depositing funds, recording expenses & income, retaining receipts for CUSA, bringing change for shows, and managing membership system. The position may be filled by any current member of the club; it does not matter if you’re a student at Carleton.
At present this is the only position that needs to be filled. The treasurer will have to sign the CUSA paperwork in the fall in order for the club to get re-certified. In order for the club to run smoothly and so the weight isn’t on just two people to do everything an active member would be preferred.
Officer positions may be opening in the fall. If you would be interested in helping run the club please either email or inform the VP at one of the next two showings.
Tomorrow’s showing is in MC 5050. The April 4th showing is in MC 2000 (Bell Theater).
See you at the showing.

March 26/2008
There are two more showings for the winter-term. The next showing is this Friday, 28th with the last showing a week Friday on April 4th. The April 4th showing will be taking place in MC 2000 (Bell Theater).
Besides the two last normal showings there may be a special showing over the course of the exam period, the showing would likely consist of Anime movies. Another possibility that may occur is special showings over the summer. If you are interested in coming to special A@C showings over the summer please bring up the topic with the VP at one of the next two meetings or by email.
This year is the last year Shannon will be acting as President of the club. She has done a great job of running the club over the past few years, thank you Shannon.
Next year the club will have Co-Presidents. The Co-Presidents will be Melissa (the former VP from 06-07) and Craig (the current VP).
At this Friday’s meeting there will be announcements for elections for vacant and new positions. For fall 2008 we will need a Treasurer. This position may be filled by any member of the club. Another position that we may be looking to fill is an Advertising Officer. If you are interested in either of these positions please inform the VP at one of the next two meetings and be prepared for elections on April 4th.

The holiday season is over and hopefully everyone is enjoying the remaining Christmas break. Classes assume on January 7 for Carleton University and the first meeting of the winter term is on Friday January 18th, 2008 for those of you who don’t know yet.
The winter schedule will be posted within the next few weeks. On a side note after reading some posts in the SOAP forums anyone can be a member of the club, it doesn’t matter whether you’re a student or not. So come on out and enjoy the showings.
Enjoy the remaining holiday break; see you towards the end of January.

Hope you all are enjoying the holiday season. The winter term schedule will be posted in a few weeks so keep an eye out for it. Two other events that may occur in the winter term are a Marathon Showing and a Final Showing of the year.
The first showing of the winter term will be on Friday January 18th, 2008.
Enjoy the holidays and may your stockings be stuffed with Anime. See you in the New Year.

December 10/2007
The Christmas Showing went well with 18 people showing up. We consumed 2 cases of pop and 7 pizzas from 1 for 1 Pizza.
The showing consisted of:
Fruits Basket 9 “A Solitary New Year”
Those Who Hunt Elves 21 “Those Who Wait For Noel”
Ai Yori Aoshi “Miyuki”
5 minute Break
Itsudatte My Santa “Merry Christmas” and “Merry Christmas Once Again”
1 hour Break from 8-9pm
Love Hina X’mas Special “Silent Eve”
Tenchi Muyo Movie 2: Daughter of Darkness a.k.a Tenchi Muyo! Midsummer's Eve
The Christmas Showing concludes the 2007 showings for A@C. The next showing is on Friday January 18th, 2008. Further updates will be posted early in the New Year.
For those of you who are students, good luck with your exams.
As a reminder to all, Geneon ends its DVD production at the end of December. It is unknown what will happen after with all its licensed titles, but it safe to say that Geneon titles will soon be hard to come by. I suggest getting what you can before it becomes a pain to get. Geneon currently has a bunch of box sets out, so put them on your Christmas wish list.
Enjoy your Christmas vacation and see you in the New Year.

December 3/2007: Christmas Showing - 5 days away
An update on the Friday December 7th, 2007 Christmas Themed Showing.
Current club members get free entry. All non-members will have to pay a $3 entry fee or buy a membership, which will be available that night. The fee is to cover the cost of pizza/pop because it will be free for the evening. In other words the pizza/pop is on the club for that evening.
A@C Club membership is as follows:
$5 for a term (fall or winter)
$10 for the year
I think we'll make a winter term membership include the Xmas showing, that way you can come back in the winter term and not have to worry about another cost. Besides it is winter already outside.
So it’s a choice of $3 for the Xmas showing only over $5 for the Xmas showing and the winter term.
I have yet to create the final list, but some of the titles are I'm considering are:
Ai Yori Aoshi
Big-O
Comic Party
Doki Doki School Hours
Fruits Basket
Irresponsible Captain Tylor
Love Hina
Mahoromatic
My Santa
Nadesico
Tenchi: Movie 2
Those Who Hunt Elves

November 29/2007: Christmas Showing
On Friday December 7th, 2007 the Anime @ Carleton Club will be doing a Christmas Themed Showing. The room we have for the showing in unfortunately not the normal room, but is in the same building, the room is MC 2000 otherwise known as Bell Theater on the main level of Minto. We are still putting together the episodes/movies, but by the 7th the showing list will be posted in the Events section.
Besides the Christmas Themed Anime for the evening we are going to be ordering pizza and have pop there. The showing will be roughly from our normal times being ~5:30pm to ~10:30pm, with an hour long break in the middle. The length of the showing will be dependent on what episodes we will have by the 7th.
Please see the post on SOAP’s forums http://soap.ottawa-anime.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1273 for the poll and make vote so we know what to have for the showing in the way of drinks and food.
This will be the last meeting/showing for A@C for 2007, the next meeting is in January and the winter term details will be posted early in the New Year.
*This showing is not related to our normal showings and will therefore not have any continuation of the series we are currently showing for the year.

Welcome to the 2007-2008 Anime Club year.
This year the Anime @ Carleton club will be having its first meeting after Thanksgiving weekend. The delay in getting everything up and running for this year was due to the strike at CU.
At present we are working on putting together the titles we will be showing, so if you have any suggestions please email them to the email below with “A@C Suggestions” in the title. The website will be getting further updates in the week ahead, so stay tuned for more info.
